LCS Families --
In light of what transpired today in Oxford with the threat that was found to be false and emanating from overseas, we feel it is important to reiterate that student safety is always the No. 1 priority at Lapeer Community Schools.
Situations like this are, unfortunately, happening everywhere.
That being said, please know that there are resources for you and your child to utilize in situations like this.
If your student sees anything that they feel needs to be reported as a potential threat, they can utilize OK2SAY to submit a tip. Anyone can report tips confidentially on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees, or schools at www.michigan.gov/ok2say, text 652729 (OK2SAY) or by phone to 8-555-OK2SAY (855-565-2729). School officials and local law enforcement are notified immediately once a tip has been submitted. Tips can be submitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Remember, if you see or hear something, say something.
For emergencies, always dial 911.
Here at LCS, we offer counseling and mental health resources for students, staff, and families. We encourage families to contact your child's school if your child is struggling with fear or anxiety. We are always here to help.
It's essential to prioritize safety and security in our schools. Creating a culture of vigilance and resilience requires collaborative efforts from educators, parents, and the community. Implementing clear protocols, fostering open communication, and promoting mental health resources will enhance the overall environment. Active engagement and training can empower everyone to contribute to a safe learning space.
Thank you,
Matt Wandrie
