ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education)
A program for 3-5 year old children with special needs. A referral to Project Find determines eligibility and services for placement into this program. Early childhood special education teachers and professional staff work with parents to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) to help meet the unique social emotional and academic needs of children.
Our Inclusion Philosophy
We believe that each child is unique and able to learn. We encourage children to learn by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences, in the least restrictive environment. This will provide opportunities for a child to reach optimum success in the classroom and in their community.
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Classrooms
Three types of classrooms are available for students with special needs (with an IEP). All classrooms provide various opportunities for inclusion on different levels. Each child will be placed in a particular classroom based on IEP goals, current level of development, and individual needs of the child.
1. Self-Contained with Mainstreaming
In this setting, children will spend the majority of their time in a classroom with students of similar needs, with some mainstreaming into a general education preschool during certain parts of the day. Mainstreaming occurs in our LCS Preschool Programs or our Wee Kids Child Development depending on the needs of the children.
2. Partial Inclusion
This setting is also a self-contained model, with students spending more overall time with general education peers for socialization experiences. Partial inclusion occurs in our LCS Preschool Programs.
3. Full Inclusion
In this model, students are completely included in a general education setting for the entire amount of time they are in school. Full inclusion occurs in the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP).
